Guided Seaweed Foraging with Heidi Hermann (TSRL, Delphinium Wine, and Strong Arm Farm) 5.15
- May 15
- 6:30 AM - 9:30 AM
- The Sea Ranch
Thursday, 5.15 at 6:30am
Join us in learning about the delicious world of California seaweed! In this 2-3 hour class, we will hike out during the low tide to explore the Sea Ranch coast and learn how to sustainably harvest edible seaweed. Examine underwater life with a Sonoma coast seaweed expert. Heidi has been sustainably harvesting and selling seaweed for 15 years: she knows what to pick, how to pick it, and most importantly, how to make it taste delicious!
This guided foray will meet in Sea Ranch (off Whalebone Reach) and be followed by a talk on what you collected, the science of seaweed, and how to cook your catch. You have the option to collect up to 10 lbs of edible seaweed. This is a coastal forage during low tide. You won't need to get in the ocean but we recommend wearing rain boots. Moderate fitness and good balance encouraged.
Reach out to Heidi [email protected] if you have further questions.
Please note this event is for ages 9 and up.
