The 34th Annual Studio Discovery Tour

The Studio Discovery Tour, hosted by the North Coast Artists Guild, is entering its 34th year of showcasing Sonoma and Mendocino County-based artists and their studios. This year’s tour takes place on 08.29 – 08.30 and 09.05 – 09.07 (Labor Day weekend). The Tour features 43 individual artists showing at 30 different studios, including 22 studios located on The Sea Ranch. This is an opportunity to meet local fine artists and see their work, as well as get a sneak peek at their Sea Ranch homes and studios.

The Sea Ranch Lodge will host one of three preview shows, from 08.26 – 09.07, with an opening reception and wine event on Wednesday, 08.26 from 4pm -6pm.

Just a little north of the Lodge on The Sea Ranch will be a group of artists that include “tinkerers” and naturalists Mike Petrich and Karen Wilkinson. Mike’s wildlife photography is unparalleled and Karen’s botanical illustrations are incredibly lifelike. Their studio is on Annapolis Road (by The Wine Shop).

Off of Annapolis Road on Verdant View (home of the Shindig Social Club and Sea Ranch Supply) will be jewelry maker and metalsmith Sher Novak, and Chinese brush painter Andrea Allen. They will be occupying a new gallery that opened in June—the Grey Whale Gallery—co-owned by two other Studio Tour artists: Kathleen Alexander and Tempra Board (www.GreyWhaleGallery.com). Next door to the Grey Whale is Marla Skibbins and her Sparkkle Creations fused glass and sterling silver jewelry. Marla will have her studio open for the tour as well.

Nearby on Fly Cloud Road, Jackie Gardener is returning to the Tour after a 20-year hiatus. Jackie creates elegantly-designed, architectural house sculptures made of wood, paper, and other adornments.

David and Lauren Moore will be showing David’s landscape photography (including iconic Sea Ranch locations) and Lauren’s unique, richly-colored interpretations of botanical scenes in watercolor, at their home in the iconic “clusters” on The Sea Ranch.

Just off of Highway One will be Jane Casner Mothersill, a classically-trained artist specializing in oil painting, who will be showing with fine jewelry-maker Walt Rush, and silk painter Siobhan Elder.

Further north on The Sea Ranch is Nancy Howard, who creates elegant oil paintings of still lifes and landscapes on a surprising medium: upcycled cardboard, from her home and studio.

Brochures featuring all of the artists and more information is available at The Lodge and by visiting www.studiodiscoverytour.com.
