Spring Meadow

Located on the brow of a hill against the backdrop of the forest, Spring Meadow commands a 180 degree view of the meadows and the Pacific.Commissioned in the late 90s by a friend and admirer of Charles Moore’s, the home evokes the spirit of Condominium One and The Sea Ranch Lodge. Buzz Yudell of Moore Ruble Yudell designed the house with the same architectural principles, choreographic and site sensibilities that define these Sea Ranch icons.

The house is accessed through a gravel court where an opening frames a Japanese maple and glimpses of a secluded garden court. The spatial narrative begins here, as one continues to be delighted by reveals both stunning and intimate through the exterior and into the interior.

The home consists of two distinct parts. A lofty single-story volume contains the main living areas for cooking, dining, living and the primary suite. A two-story tower volume, contains a study and guest accommodations. An exceptionally generous covered porch and breezeway bind these two volumes and graciously extend the interior spaces outward. A spacious open kitchen and tall fireplace volume share center stage in the living space. Ample doors and windows bring in the views and facilitate an easy flow inside and out; from the covered porch to the sheltered garden court. The tower volume, away from the center of action, beckons with its built-in desk and reading nooks, inviting solitude and contemplation.
